Teaser or trailer? This is the difference

by Pramith

Probably everyone has seen a teaser or a trailer for a movie. Both seem to be very similar, but there are differences.

Teaser or trailer: Differences

Trailers are mostly known from the video game, film and series industry. Teasers also exist there, but they are also used in other ways.

  • Teaser: This is a short advertising element that is intended to arouse curiosity. It can be a short film, music or text excerpt. If it is a film teaser, it should not contain any film clips. It is specially produced material. Still images are also possible.
  • Trailer: This is a video clip. Trailers are usually short and include passages from the original work. The trailer serves as an advertisement for a video game, cinema or television film. It can also be about other releases.
  • Trailer duration: Usually trailers are quite short. They are short films that usually last 1 to 2 minutes. However, there are also much longer trailers. The longest trailer in history goes on for a full 7 hours and 20 minutes. The film that accompanies it has a duration of 720 hours.
