Filming the Windows 10 screen: How to make a screencast

If you want to film your screen under |windows 10, you can use the same screencast tools as under older |windows versions. We explain how to make a screencast in the new |windows version as well.

Screencasts under |windows 10: With these tools it works

To create a screencast, you also use one of many free tools under |windows 10.

  • Use e.g. the VLC Media Player or the ActivePresenter to film your screen under |windows 10. How to create a screencast with ActivePresenter is explained in the next section.
    Microsoft also offers its own software for screencasts, the Microsoft Expression Encoder.

  • You can also film your screen with the CamStudio programme.

    Screencast with ActivePresenter – how to film your screen

    Install the ActivePresenter programme on your PC and start the software.

    • Click on “New Capture”.
    • Select “Record Movie/Streaming Video” at this point.
    • Use the small pencil icon on the right side to select the yellow light under “Cursor” to turn off your pointer.
    • At this point you can also deactivate the pointer completely if you wish. To do this, remove the tick from “Show Mouse in Full Motion Recording Mode”. Save the changes by clicking on “Save”.
      Then click on “OK” and then on the large red dot in the “Capture New Project” bar. The recording will now start.
    • To stop the recording, click on the small ActivePresenter icon in the menu bar and click on “Stop”.
    • ActivePresenter now offers various functions at this point to edit your screencast professionally.

    However, it is also possible to film the screen without any programmes or tools.

    • To do this, press the key combination Win + G.
    • A window will appear asking you if it is a game you want to open. Click on “Yes”.
    • A menu appears where you can start recording.
