Using the PS3 controller on the PC – here’s how

by Pramith

You can use your PS3 controller not only for gaming on the console, but also on the PC. We’ll show you how it works.

How to use the PS3 controller on your PC

To use your PS3 controller on your PC, you need to connect the controller to your PC with a USB cable and install the free driver ScpToolkit.

  • First, you should disconnect the PS3 controller from your PlayStation. Then you can press the PS button in the centre to turn it back on.
Then connect your PS3 controller to your PC with a suitable USB cable.

    • The next step is to download the driver manually, as the PS3 controller is not automatically compatible.
To do this, download the file “ScpToolkit_Setup.exe” free of charge from the ScpToolkit website.

      • After downloading, double-click the file to run it.
      • After that, you need to follow the instructions of the installer and download other provided files if needed.
      • Open the programme “ScpToolkit Driver Installer” after the installation is complete.
      • In the following, you must then check “Select DualShock 3 Controller for installation” with a tick. You can remove other selected controllers such as the DualShock 4.
      • Now you need to check “Wireless Controller” and press “install” in the bottom corner to finish.
      • From now on you can also use your PS3 controller on your PC.
