Spotify HD Lossless Audio is one of the features that the service has been offering since September 2025. It is said to significantly improve audio quality.
Spotify HD Lossless Audio: Feature overview
If you are interested in lossless audio quality for your favorite songs on Spotify, this has been possible since September 10, 2025.
- With Spotify HD Lossless Audio, you can play songs in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC. This is lossless compression (FLAC) – the audio data is preserved without any loss of quality.
- To enjoy the better audio quality, you need an active Spotify Premium subscription. Without this, you will not have access to Lossless Audio.
- This feature is only available for music. nbsp;You cannot enjoy podcasts, music videos and audiobooks in Lossless.
- You can switch to Lossless audio quality in the settings under Settings and Privacy. In Audio Quality or Media Quality, you can choose between the normal and lossless options.
Spotify HD Lossless Audio: Technical Requirements
If you want to use the HD Lossless Audio feature in Spotify, you need a compatible device.
- If you use Spotify via the app on mobile devices, you need at least app version 9.0.58. Only devices that work with this or higher versions can use HD Lossless Audio. Older versions are not supported.
- On a PC, you need the desktop app version 1.2.67 or higher. You can find the app version on Mac and Windows devices under the options in the About Spotify tab.
- You can also enjoy lossless audio quality on devices from manufacturers such as Sony, Bose, Samsung, or Sennheiser, as long as they are compatible with Spotify Connect. You can check compatible devices directly on the Spotify Connect page.
- An internet speed of at least 1.5 to 2 megabits per second is also recommended. This is to ensure that there is no loss of quality when streaming.
- Please note: Not every song is available in a lossless version. This depends entirely on the original recording. If this is not available in a lossless format, it can only be played back in its original audio quality.
