ChatGPT Atlas vs. Google Chrome: AI features compared
ChatGPT Atlas is OpenAI’s browser, which provides you with ChatGPT from the ground up. Chrome, on the other hand, is one of the most popular browsers and has been available since 2008.
- This is precisely the focus of the browser. You can ask questions about content on the web, search sources, and have them summarized. You can always access the assistant via the sidebar.
- Google Chrome uses Google’s Gemini instead. The service can be accessed directly via the Google apps in the browser. Gemini allows you to perform similar web searches and summaries.
- One significant difference is the AI automation of ChatGPT Atlas. Agent Mode allows you to optimize orders through AI, book tickets, or call up visited pages via a question.
- Google Chrome, on the other hand, relies on classic search via the history and bookmarks to display pages you have already visited. Depending on your workflow, ChatGPT Atlas may be a better option for you if you don’t want to search yourself.
- Chrome, on the other hand, offers you greater security and the full range of features at no additional cost. Gemini offers almost all features without a subscription.
- To unlock all features for ChatGPT Atlas, including Agent Mode, you need a subscription. This can be ChatGPT Plus, Pro, or Business.
Availability and customization options for ChatGPT Atlas and Google Chrome
There are other differences and similarities between the browsers.
- Chrome is available for numerous operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. ChatGPT Atlas is currently (as of November 2025) only available for macOS devices.
- Additional platforms are expected to follow. It is not yet known when ChatGPT Atlas will be available for iOS, Windows, and Android. Depending on your system, you may need to wait a little longer if you want to use the AI browser.
- Since ChatGPT Atlas is a Chromium browser, you can easily transfer bookmarks and add-ons from Chrome. This allows you to customize both browsers to your liking.
- You can use both browsers in dark and incognito mode. Both have customizable home pages and menus.
- ChatGTP Atlas is not financed by advertisements. This means that you usually don’t have to worry about ads, especially when reading the summaries of websites.
- Of course, you can still see ads on the respective pages. With Chrome, this is only possible with an ad blocker.
