Animal Crossing New Horizons: Where to find bamboo
You won’t find bamboo on your island in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Therefore, collect the plant on another island. You can then cultivate and propagate it on your home island.
- Buy a mileage ticket for 2,000 Nook miles. Then travel with Dodo Airlines to a different island. Islands are generated anew each time you travel. You can therefore expect to see different plant species each time.
- You may have to visit new islands several times before you finally land on an island with bamboo.
- Once you have made it to a bamboo island, it is best to help yourself generously to the local flora. You have two options for obtaining bamboo. Cut down grown bamboo plants or dig bamboo shoots up with a shovel .
- Bamboo shoots are usually found next to mature bamboo in the soil.
Where a shoot is hiding in the soil, the soil will have star-shaped cracks. - In spring (February 25 to May 31) with a bit of luck you can get spring bamboo . To do this, cut down bamboo plants. There is a 30 percent chance that you will get spring bamboo instead of normal bamboo.
Planting bamboo: How to propagate bamboo
Once you are back on your island with bamboo in your luggage, you can start your own bamboo cultivation.
- To propagate bamboo, plant a shoot in the soil. Plant the bamboo shoot at a distance from other plants .
- If you place bamboo directly next to other plants and objects, nothing will grow from the seedling.
- Three days after planting, the bamboo shoots will grow into full-grown bamboo plants.
- Star-shaped cracks will appear in the soil next to the mature bamboo plants. Underneath you will find new bamboo shoots that you can dig up with a shovel. Plant the shoots in another place – with sufficient space between them – to grow new bamboo.
How to use bamboo: sell or make items
Sell shoots or fully grown bamboo plants to obtain sternis. Craft instructions are also available for the material bamboo or spring bamboo, which you can use to make various items.
- Bamboo not only looks pretty on your island, it can also earn you a tidy profit. If you sell a bamboo shoot or a spring bamboo, you will receive 200 staris.
- You earn 80 sternis per piece of mature “ordinary” bamboo .
- Bamboo can be used as a material to make various items.
For example, you can build a bench, a stool, a loudspeaker or a shelf from bamboo plants using the relevant crafting instructions. - In spring, you can make spring bamboo or bamboo shoots in total ten different objects. These include a bamboo shoot lamp, a noodle slide, a steamer, a pan flute and bamboo forest wallpaper. You can find the corresponding craft instructions in Balloons.
