You can iron without an ironing board even when you’re traveling or don’t have a suitable surface on hand. With our three tips, we’ll show you how to get your pants, shirts, and blouses nice and smooth.
Tip #1: Ironing without an ironing board on a smooth surface
Even without an ironing board, you can easily remove wrinkles from your clothes.
- Find a sturdy, smooth surface to use as an ironing board. This could be a table, a bench, or an armchair, for example.
- Take a wool blanket and fold it two or three times. It will serve as a soft surface for ironing.
- Place a cotton cloth on top of the blanket—for example, a linen sheet or a dish towel. You can also buy special ironing cloths to use as a cover.
- Place the garments on the cloth and iron them. You can set the iron down on a pot holder.
Tip #2: The Travel Ironing Blanket
When you’re traveling, it’s handy to always have small ironing aids with you.
- An ironing blanket doesn’t take up much space and fits easily in your suitcase. It serves as a base and can be used on any surface—even on the floor if necessary.
- Spread out the ironing blanket and smooth it out. Then place your clothes on top and start ironing.
- A travel iron has proven to be the perfect companion for an ironing mat. With this duo, you’re always well-protected against wrinkles in shirts and blouses.
Tip #3: Hanging Laundry Properly
This tip ensures that wrinkles don’t form in your clothes in the first place. This keeps the amount of ironing required to a minimum.
- Wash your clothes as usual. Reduce the spin speed to minimize wrinkles in pants, sweaters, and other items.
- Hang your clothes on hangers while they’re still damp and smooth them out. Let your outfit dry this way, and you’ll hardly have any wrinkles.
