Turn Off the American Keyboard

by Mike

If the Z and Y keys are swapped on your Windows PC’s keyboard, you’ll need to turn off the American keyboard and switch back to the German layout. Here’s how.

Turn off the American keyboard

To use your keyboard as usual again, simply follow these steps:

  1. Go to “Control Panel” via the Start menu (Windows icon in the lower-left corner).
  2. Then, under the “Date, Time, Language, and Region” submenu, click “Change keyboards and input methods.”
  3. There, select “Change keyboards…”.
  4. In the “Text Services and Input Languages” window, you’ll see a list of keyboard languages. To turn off the American keyboard, the “Default input language” must be set to “German (Germany)”. Additionally, the German keyboard should be listed first under “Installed Services.” The character set is now set to German again.
