iPhone: Enable SSL encryption for accounts from the drop-down list
You can set up an email account on your iPhone in no time. If you have an Exchange Mail, iCloud Mail account or one with Yahoo!, Google, Outlook.com or AOL, the setup is simplest: The settings are loaded automatically.
- Open Settings, then select ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’.
- Select ‘Add Account’ and choose your provider. Enter your name, email address and password.
- The account will then be created. SSL encryption is enabled automatically for the accounts listed.
Setting up SSL encryption for other email accounts on the iPhone
If you have an email account that does not appear in the list (such as T-Online or GMX), you will need to configure the settings manually:
- Open ‘Settings’ > ‘Mail, Contacts, Calendars’. Select ‘Add Account’ and then ‘Other’.
- Enter your name, email address and password.
- Make sure your email account is set to “IMAP”. This is the only way SSL encryption will work. Please note: not every provider offers IMAP free of charge. Some providers charge for this service. Check in advance whether the service is enabled for you.
- To enable SSL encryption, click on the email account you have just set up in the settings and select “Advanced”.
- Here you will see the “Use SSL” toggle switch, which you simply need to switch on.
