iPhone: Empty the recycle bin – this is how it works

by Pramith

You should empty the recycle bin on your iPhone. This is where files that you delete from the smartphone first end up and take up storage space.

iPhone – how to empty the Recycle Bin

The iPhone stores deleted files, such as photos or mails, in the recycle bin for 30 days. If you need more space on the smartphone before then, or if you want to remove the files completely immediately, empty the recycle bin.

  • Photos: To delete photos and videos permanently, open the Photos app on your iPhone and switch to the Albums tab. Select the photos and videos you want to remove and then tap the trash can icon. Now all you have to do is confirm with “Delete”.
  • Mails: Go to “Mail” in the settings and then to “Accounts”. Select your account and tap “Account” again on the next screen. Scroll all the way down and tap “Advanced” ☻ “Deleted Emails” ☻ “Remove”. Here you will find the options “Never”, “After one day”, “After one week” and “After one month”. Select “After one day” as the shortest option.
  • Notes: To remove notes from the Trash, open the Notes app and go to “Recently Deleted”. Tap “Edit” and select the deleted notes you want to remove permanently. Then tap on “Delete all”.
