Transferring iPhone voice memos to a PC

To transfer a voice memo from your iPhone to your PC, you would normally need to synchronise it via iTunes. However, if you manage your music manually, you’ll need to use additional software. We’ll show you how to transfer the data anyway.

Transferring voice memos via iPhone synchronisation

If you synchronise the music on your iPhone using iTunes, you can access your voice memos very easily:

  1. To do this, connect your iPhone to your PC and launch iTunes.
  2. Select your iPhone and click on the ‘Music’ tab in the central menu.
  3. Tick the box next to ‘Include Voice Memos’ under ‘Synch Music’ and confirm by clicking ‘Synch’.
  4. Your voice memos will now appear as a separate playlist in iTunes.

If you do not synchronise the music on your iPhone via iTunes, you will need to take a roundabout route to access the Voice Memo files.

  1. Download and install the free iExplorer.
  2. Launch iExplorer and connect your iPhone to your PC.
  3. On the home screen, select ‘Voice Memos’ and tick the memos you wish to transfer to your PC, or drag and drop them onto your PC. Alternatively, tick the memos you want and click ‘Transfer from iPhone’. Then, select a folder on your PC via ‘Transfer Selected to Folder…’.
  4. Since the latest version of iTunes (11.2.0.115), you can also access your voice memos in iTunes when managing your music manually: To do this, connect your iPhone to your PC and select the voice memo playlist on your iPhone in iTunes.
