Many gamers would like to be able to install Discord on the PS4. However, there is no official Discord app available on the PlayStation Store. Nevertheless, you can use Discord on the PS4 via a workaround.
Discord on the PS4 – here’s how it works
In theory, you can use Discord on the PS4, but this comes with some significant limitations.
- To access Discord via the PS4, you need to visit the Discord homepage using the built-in web browser and log in.
- Whilst you can interact with the interface and read messages, you can only reply to a limited extent.
- This is because neither voice chat nor video chat is possible via the PS4’s web browser. This limitation renders Discord virtually unusable for most people on the PS4.
- Even writing messages is complicated. Typing with the controller takes longer anyway. On top of that, you cannot send a text message at all. The only option is to send something like a GIF and then edit that message. This allows you to add text afterwards.
- If you simply want to read along on a few Discord servers via the PS4, that’s no problem at all. However, if you want to chat with your friends via Discord, you should use one of the Discord apps.
