Photoshop: Cutting out a fixed size

by Tobias

If you want to cut out a fixed size with Photoshop, a few manipulations are necessary. Since there is no tool with which you can remove a specific size directly, you use the selection tool in combination with other tools for this.

Photoshop cut out fixed size: Instructions

Since you cannot set a fixed size with the crop tool, but only a ratio, other solutions are needed. You can use guides to mark out the fixed size and then cut it out.

  • Use the selection rectangle tool first or press the “M” key.
  • There you change the type of tool in the programme bar to “Fixed size”. Then you can enter the desired fixed size.
  • By clicking on the drawing area you can now see the frame in the fixed size.
  • Use “View ☻ New Guideline” to create four new guideline lines, which you can attach to the selection above using the Move tool or the keyboard shortcut “V”.
  • Now you can cut out the staked area as usual with the cropping tool “C”.

Exhibit in fixed size: limit working area

Alternatively, you can also set a fixed size in Photoshop by changing the working area. It is best to do this at the very beginning.

  • Select Image ☻ Workspace in the programme bar.
  • A new dialogue opens in which you can set the fixed size. You can switch between pixels, centimetres and more.
  • Click OK to confirm your entry. Your document workspace now has your desired fixed size.
