Baldur’s Gate 3: Non-lethal attacks – what’s behind them

Non-lethal attacks in Baldur’s Gate 3 are a special form of offense that you can use to spare an opponent

Baldur’s Gate 3: Non-lethal attacks explained

The combat system of Baldur’s Gate 3 uses numerous rules from Dungeons & Dragons, which also include non-lethal attacks.

  • These are attacks that do not kill the opponent, but only knock them unconscious. For this reason, they can only be carried out with armed or unarmed melee attacks. Magic and ranged attacks remain lethal.
  • You must activate the option before or during combat. To do this, switch to the passive values in the menu. There you will find the passive characteristic to switch to the non-lethal attacks. Activate it:
  • After this, all physical melee attacks are no longer lethal until you deactivate the option again. This applies to the entire group. The amount of damage dealt is not reduced
  • This option is particularly useful for situations in which you were unable to avoid a fight due to a lack of luck with the dice, for example. This prevents the NPCs from no longer being available after the fight.
