Fortnite 2fa: How it works explained
Two-factor authentication in Fortnite is an additional security mechanism to protect your Epic Games account from unauthorized access.
- For 2fa, you set up an additional login method in addition to entering your email address and password. You must enter a randomly generated code that makes the login possible
- You will be prompted to enter the code after you have entered your normal data. The code displayed is only valid for the current login and is regenerated each time.
- In addition to the actual login, there are other situations that require the 2fa in Fortnite. After setting up two-factor authentication, you must confirm it immediately with a code
- A code must also be entered if you have not logged into your Epic Games account for 30 days or have not logged in from another device. This prevents a third party from gaining access to your account. 2fa is also used if you delete your browser’s cookies. This is only necessary if you use the Epic Games website instead of the Launcher.
Fortnite: How to activate the 2fa
If you want to use two-factor authentication for Fortnite, proceed as follows:
- Open the Epic Games Launcher or the homepage and log in with your account. Click on the account icon and select the Account option from the drop-down menu
- In the account settings, look for the Password & Security tab. At the very bottom you will find two-factor authentication.
- You can now select which method you want to use to set up 2fa. There are three available for this:
- It is possible to send the 2fa code directly to your e-mail address that is linked to your Epic Games account. To do this, check the email during login for the code.
- Using an SMS code is just as easy. With this option, you receive the code by text message and can then type it in.
- Using a two-factor authenticator app is also possible. All you need to do is use a 2fa app such as Microsoft Authenticator on your device and link it to your Epic Games account.
- Complete the setup. The additional security level for Fortnite will then be available to you.
