Smartphone overheats – what you can do

by Pramith

It often happens in summer that a smartphone overheats. In this practical tip, we show you what you should do if this happens.

Smartphone has become too hot – What you can do

It happens all by itself: you’re lying on the beach in summer, want to check your mails and can no longer touch your smartphone because it’s so hot. Now, at the latest, it’s time to act.

  • Remove your smartphone from the heat source and let it cool down slowly.
  • Place the device in the shade or another cool place and just wait for your smartphone to cool down.
  • While doing this, switch off your smartphone, do not use it and do not touch the screen unnecessarily. This is because you can damage yourself and the device.
  • Caution: Do not put your mobile phone in the refrigerator and do not let it cool down abruptly. This can also cause damage to the device.

Prevention – so that the smartphone does not overheat

Whether it’s simple apps or a few tweaks, wherever you are, you can keep your smartphone from overheating.

  • Protect your smartphone from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid warm places, such as saunas or long car journeys. Especially when the mobile phone is used as a navigation device, it is exposed to permanent sunlight.
  • Just switch off your smartphone and put it in your pocket. Your phone feels most comfortable at room temperature.
  • By the way, too high temperatures not only damage the smartphone hardware, but also the battery life of the device.

Mobile phone overheats for no reason – that’s the reason

If sunlight or too high a temperature can’t be the reason your smartphone is overheating, there are a few other possible causes:

  • You may have too many apps open at the same time. If an app is running in the background for a very long time, this can lead to problems. Therefore, close all apps. This helps with both Android and iOS.
  • Restart your phone. This will fix small errors in the cache that can affect the operating temperature. If the phone is very hot, leave it switched off for a few minutes before restarting it.
  • Various components of the phone can overheat. If the battery in particular becomes hot, this may be because the device is completely discharged too often. If the battery level drops below about 15%, you should ideally recharge the smartphone.
  • Does your phone overheat only when charging? This may be due to a faulty cable. So replace the charging cable and test if the problem is fixed.
