Drawer under the stove: That’s why you’ve always used the drawer wrongly

by Flo

Almost everyone has a drawer under the stove and almost everyone uses it wrong. That’s a shame, because the designers have assigned the drawer under the stove a very useful task that you should definitely know about.

Drawer under the stove – that’s really what it’s for

There are some things that are just the way they are and you often don’t really think about them for years. You notice this at the latest when objects have great functions but you have never used them due to ignorance. Or do you know, for example, what the blue side of the eraser is for? It’s the same with the ominous drawer under some ovens:

  • If you own a conventional oven, it is almost certain that the drawer underneath the oven has a very special function. However, this is by no means additional storage space, which is what the drawer is often misused for.
  • The drawer under the stove is usually designed to be used for keeping warm. The prerequisite is, of course, that the oven is on. You can find out whether your drawer is a warming drawer by referring to the operating instructions. Sometimes you can also tell because the drawer is specially covered with metal. On the more exclusive models, you will even find a temperature display in the warming drawer.
  • The drawer is practical, for example, when the cooked part of the meal is already ready, while the food still needs a few minutes in the oven.
  • But even if you just warm up the plates, the drawer has already served its purpose. With the preheated plates, you’re sure to bring the food hot to the table.
  • Note: Especially if the drawer is made of metal, you should not store any flammable objects in it. The risk of fire is not very high, but it is not completely excluded either.
