Acute and circular hair loss Alopecia Areata (AA for short) occurs due to inflammation. This type of hair loss has a circular or oval shape.

• The cause is still unclear from today’s perspective, medicine assumes that Alopecia Areata could be hereditary. External influences such as stress, allergies, infections or medication can also accelerate this effect.
• In the beginning, in most cases, a small hairless patch develops on the head and the skin starts to itch. In the majority of patients, a circular patch remains, and in a few patients, all hair on the head is lost. Even rarer, but quite possible, is the loss of all body hair.

How to treat alopecia areata

Unfortunately, there is still no effective treatment for this disease, only therapeutic approaches. However, these are usually only effective until they are discontinued.

• One therapeutic approach is cortisol. At the beginning of the breakdown, cortisol-containing drugs are administered as solutions or creams.
• There are also injections of cortisone into the scalp or intravenous infusions. Unfortunately, the guarantee of success is not assured and this form of treatment is rather controversial.
• Zinc therapy is another treatment option. The inflamed hair root is seen as a disorder by the immune system due to “misinformation” and is fought against. Adding zinc acts as an immune stimulator and so attempts are made to correct this “misinformation”.
• Another known treatment method is the administration of thymus peptides, which are found in Thymuskin. They are applied daily as a thymuskin shampoo. The peptides stimulate the cells of the immune system to multiply so that new hair can grow back.
