If the leaves of your hemp palm tree snap off, this is usually due to the weather outside or too little fertilizer. With the right care, you can protect your evergreen palm.
Leaves of the hemp palm snap off: Tips and first aid
The Chinese hemp palm is a hardy, evergreen palm that can be planted in the garden or in a tub on the patio. However, the problem that often occurs is that the leaves of the hemp palm snap off.
- If you bought the plant fresh, the leaves may have snapped off during transportation;
- Even if your plant was rather dark in the garden center, the change of environment outdoors can cause the leaves to droop at first. This problem should disappear by itself over time.
- However, wind is usually the reason for kinks in the hemp palm. Place the pot in a sheltered spot or plant the palm near a house wall or privacy screen to avoid weather-related damage.
- To counteract bent leaves, you can also use fertilizer containing potassium. This ensures that the fronds are strengthened and less fragile.
- Kinked frond tips can also indicate that your hemp palm has received too little water. Water them as soon as the top of the soil has completely dried out, but avoid waterlogging.
