Check network coverage online: This is how you proceed
If you want to take out a cell phone contract, you should first find out the network coverage in your area. The three network operators Telekom, Vodafone and o2 offer network coverage maps on their websites.
- Telekom: On Telekom’s network coverage map, you can use the menu on the right-hand side to select whether the network coverage of 2G, 4G or 5G should be displayed. You can use the search bar on the left-hand side to enter your location to display the network coverage in your area
- Vodafone: The Vodafone network coverage map is similar. Here, too, you enter your location in the search bar if you want to find out the network coverage at your home. You can also see the download speeds directly on the map
- o2: With the o2 network coverage map, you can also quickly find out how good the network coverage is in your area.
Network coverage in the future: improvements thanks to AI
Although network coverage has improved in recent years, there are still regions where the mobile network is not available. Network expansion is therefore an important issue for network operators. More and more artificial intelligence is being used in the expansion and operation of networks.
- For example, an AI automatically provides network operators with location recommendations for the expansion of fiber optic lines.
- For the expansion of the mobile network, an AI analyzes what size and frequencies the mobile cells should have for nationwide reception. In addition, the installations and maintenance of the mobile phone masts are documented, with the AI automatically recognizing error patterns.
- AI is also used to prevent network faults. Problem areas in network performance are detected early by algorithms and can therefore be rectified before the fault actually occurs.
