You find the hearing aids of a deceased family member and wonder what you can do with them. We have a few tips for reusing them.
Hearing aids from the deceased: How you can continue to use them
When you find the hearing aids of a deceased relative, your first thought is probably to simply throw them in the bin. However, the hearing aids are far too good for that. Instead, you can do the following with them:
- It is usually almost impossible to use the inherited hearing aids yourself. They are personalized to the person wearing them and will probably not help you with your own hearing problem. These are also custom-made and you may have difficulty fitting them into your own ear canal;
- You probably don’t need any hearing aids yourself. So simply donate them to a good cause. The German Association for the Hard of Hearing is happy to accept such devices;
- Several hearing care professionals are also happy to receive used hearing aids to pass on to needy hard of hearing people with the same settings
- On the internet you will also find various addresses to which you can send the used hearing aids. The organizations then send the devices on to poorer countries to help people with hearing problems there;
- In this way, you relieve our landfills and help poor people so that they can participate in life with better hearing again.
