If you use the Microsoft Edge browser, you can use Google as your search engine instead of Bing. To do this, you need to enable the service of your choice in the browser settings.
Microsoft Edge: Using Google as your search engine
By default, Microsoft’s Edge browser uses Bing as its search engine. With these settings, you can use Google instead:
- Launch Microsoft Edge and click on the menu button with the three dots in the top right-hand corner.
- Select “Settings” from the menu. In the window that appears, click on “Privacy, search and services” in the left-hand menu bar.
- Scroll right to the bottom and click on “Address bar and search”. In the next step, next to “Search engine used in the address bar”, select Google as the search engine from the drop-down menu.
- You can then specify whether the search box or the address bar should be used in new tabs.
- The change will be applied automatically. You will now search using Google instead of Bing.
Microsoft Edge: Change the home page to Google
With these settings, you will search via Google in the Edge browser from now on.
- However, the Edge design remains unchanged when you open a new tab.
- If you wish to set a different page – for example, the Google page for newly opened tabs – this cannot be done using the browser’s built-in features.
- You’ll need to install an extension to do this. Microsoft provides the ‘Custom New Tab’ add-on for this purpose. This allows you to specify which page should open in a new tab.
