If you wish to send large parcels, there are several providers available to assist you. Not only the well-known parcel services, but also specialist firms transport large parcels and goods.
DHL: Sending large parcels
- Parcels may weigh a maximum of 31.5 kg and measure 120 x 60 x 60 cm. In the case of so-called bulky goods, the parcel must not exceed 200 cm in length or have a girth of more than 360 cm. You can calculate the girth using the length, plus twice the width and twice the height.
- If you wish to send larger parcels or parcels weighing up to 300 kg, this is only possible via DHL Express. This service is also available internationally.
- To make posting easier, DHL offers online postage services. This means you can conveniently print out the dispatch note from home, saving you time. It is also possible to insure your parcels. Should any damage occur in the post, the value of the goods is covered as fully as possible.
- For parcels up to 31.5 kg, the cost is 23.99 euros. For bulky items – that is, oversized parcels that are not cuboid or cylindrical in shape – the cost is 28.99 euros.
Hermes: Sending large parcels
- Hermes offers various parcel classes, categorised as S, M, L, XL and XXL. The combined length of the longest and shortest sides must not exceed 200 cm. The weight is also limited to 31.5 kg.
- The price for the largest parcel category is currently around 34 euros. If required, you can also book a collection from your own front door. Ensure that parcels are well packed, securely fastened with parcel tape and can be transported safely.
- To work out the relevant postage costs and terms of dispatch for your large parcel, use the Hermes postage calculator. If you have any questions or problems, it is best to contact Hermes customer services.
DPD: Sending large parcels
- The girth is a key factor for DPD, as it influences the size of the parcel in combination with its weight. The girth (length + 2 x width + 2 x height = max. 300 cm) must be strictly adhered to.
- When dropping off at a parcel shop, the limits are 20 kg, 100 cm in length and 175 cm in girth. Any larger parcels will be collected from your home by DPD.
- At a parcel shop, prices start from 16.90 euros; for collection, prices start from 24 euros. DPD also offers various additional services, such as parcel tracking or proof of delivery, which you can use as required.
GLS: Sending large parcels
With GLS, the weight of parcels is limited to 40 kg. The advantage is that even the smallest and cheapest parcel category can weigh up to 40 kg.
- The maximum girth is 3 metres. This is calculated as follows: the circumference of the parcel plus its longest side. Furthermore, the parcel must not be longer than 2 m, higher than 60 cm or wider than 80 cm. In addition to sturdy shipping boxes, please use high-quality bubble wrap to ensure the contents of the parcel reach their destination safely.
- The price for the largest parcel category is currently around 19 euros. Domestic parcels usually reach their destination within 24 hours. Exceptions apply to deliveries to islands – in such cases, delivery may take longer. Across Europe, standard delivery times range from 24 to 96 hours.
- You can check the current status of your parcel via the tracking service. Simply enter the parcel number or track ID to stay up to date.
