You can also make a quick phone call with the Apple Watch. We show you what options you have for answering and making phone calls on the Apple Watch with and without your iPhone.

Making calls with the Apple Watch: Answering calls

If you receive a call on your iPhone and the Apple Watch is connected to the iPhone, the call is automatically transferred to the Apple Watch. The Smartwatch rings and vibrates.

  • Put your hand on the Apple Watch display to mute the call. This way you can quickly suppress the noise.
  • Accept or reject a call using the corresponding button, you can make a call directly through the Apple Watch speaker.
  • Turn the wheel on the digital crown to see more options. Here, for example, you can adjust the volume.
  • If you tap on the three horizontal dots, you can also divert the call to your iPhone. Alternatively, you can unlock your iPhone and answer the call there, or swipe up from the bottom of the Apple Watch screen and touch the iPhone icon to make it ring.

Calling friends with the Apple Watch

To make the call yourself, you also have several options. You can make calls both with and without an iPhone:

  • Unlock the Apple Watch and look for the Phone app. Open the “Contacts” menu here. Here you can select any person and call them.
  • Tap the side button on the Apple Watch to see the most frequently contacted people. Select the contact you want here and tap the phone icon in the bottom right corner.
  • Alternatively, you can also make calls via Siri. Simply say “Hey Siri, call Tobias”. Siri will then search for the desired contact and call him automatically.
  • In addition, you can also simply enter a number in the phone app using the number pad.
  • You can make calls over the Wi-Fi network even without the connected iPhone nearby by selecting this option in the Phone app. If you have a Cellular model of the Apple Watch, it can even connect to a cellular network on its own and you don’t need your iPhone to do it.
