Renting a Christmas tree: That’s what’s behind it

by Flo

Renting instead of buying is a trend that doesn’t stop at the Christmas tree. Instead of disposing of the tree after the holidays, a rented tree is reused. However, the environmentally friendly service comes at a price.

How to rent your own Christmas tree

Millions of Christmas trees end up in the rubbish shortly after the holidays. This is not ecological, also because the trees often do not come from Germany and have to be transported over long distances. Renting a tree is an alternative to curb throwaway consumption.

  • The advantage of renting is that the tree is delivered directly to your home before the festivities and is also collected after the holidays.
  • The trees are then put back outdoors and will be used again next year. And this continues until they are too big to be used as Christmas trees.
  • The costs are quite different. A tree with a height of 150 centimetres costs around 65 euros. Larger plants can cost more than 150 euros. The prices include delivery and collection.
  • Various suppliers also deliver already decorated trees. You pay an extra charge for the decoration, which is determined individually.
  • There are companies that deliver throughout Germany, others only regionally. The best thing to do is to search the Internet for a rental service near you.
  • The rented tree will be delivered to you on a fixed date and will also be collected again on a predetermined day.

Care for the rented Christmas tree

If you decide to rent, the live Christmas tree must be cared for during its time with you.

  • It is important that you water the tree regularly so that it does not dry out. The soil should always be slightly moist.
  • You must not damage the tree. This means, for example, that you do not spray it with artificial snow or cut branches.
  • Do not place the tree directly next to a heat source.
  • Normally you will receive care instructions from the supplier. Read them well and be sure to apply them.
