WhatsApp is always getting new features – including the WhatsApp Channels feature, which is supposed to be a breath of fresh air.
This is what WhatsApp Channels can do
In addition to the additions of the group feature, creating polls, being able to delete messages and designing your own avatar, WhatsApp is expanding its features in a new direction with WhatsApp Channels. The feature allows you to receive news on your areas of interest.
- Channels are public channels. You can follow them to stay up to date on specific topics – for example, sports topics, celebrities, weather, fashion trends, government and much more.
- You will find the feature in a new tab, which will be titled “News”. Channels can be used to share news, videos, pictures or even polls with the community. Your mobile phone number will not be shared when you create or join the channels.
- Channel history is stored by WhatsApp for 30 days. As the administrator of a channel, you can decide yourself whether your channel can be found via the directory or not. There will also be monetisation options. So a payment function can be added.
- In the near future, the new WhatsApp feature will be available in Singapore and Colombia. Other regions are to follow (as of June 2023).
