WinVnc – what is it?

Some computers have the WinVnc programme installed, which sometimes runs in the background. In this guide, we explain what WinVnc is and what it is used for.

What is WinVnc?

• WinVnc is a piece of software developed by RealVNC.
• The programme is part of the VNC Open Server and allows other users to view your desktop.
• The tool is often mentioned in connection with employee monitoring. For example, a manager can use WinVnc to monitor their employees’ computers.
• Employees must be informed if, for example, monitoring via WinVnc is taking place. If you find the programme on your PC without having been informed, you should contact the data protection officer.
