The command prompt in Windows 10 allows you to execute a wide variety of commands to run operating system tasks directly. The following list introduces you to the most important ones:
- shutdown: If you want to shut down your computer immediately, use this command. There are still variations, such as shutdown -r for a reboot.
- start: With this command you can directly open or start a programme, a file or a new CMD window.
- hostname: This command allows you to directly display the computer name.
- tasklist: An overview of the currently running programmes and their tasks is opened.
- taskkill: To terminate processes, you can use this CMD command.
- format: Format the desired data carrier.
- defrag: If you want to format the current medium, this CMD command is helpful.
- regedit: Enter this command to open the registry editor.
