Connect Bring with Alexa: How to set up the service optimally

by Pramith

Connecting Bring and Alexa enables a seamless shopping list that you can update via voice commands.

Connect Bring with Alexa: Instructions

The connection process between Bring and Alexa is straightforward and can be completed in just a few steps:

  • To connect Bring to Alexa, install the Bring app on your smartphone and log in. This is the basis for all further steps.

  • In the Alexa app, navigate to More (bottom right) and select Skills & Games. Search for the Bring! Shopping List skill and activate it. This will give Alexa permission to access your Bring shopping lists.

  • After activating the skill, you will need to sign in to your Bring account in the Alexa app using the Link Account option. This ensures that both services can communicate with each other correctly.

  • Finally, test the connection by asking Alexa to add or remove an item. If everything is set up correctly, this should work smoothly.

  • Note: You must grant the Bring app read and write access to your Alexa shopping lists. This is necessary so that the two apps can communicate with each other without any problems.

Connect Bring with Alexa: Tips and troubleshooting

If you want to get the most out of the integration between Bring and Alexa, there are some helpful tips and solutions that can help you.

  • Create personalized lists in the Bring app that meet specific needs, such as weekend shopping or party supplies. You can manage these lists individually with Alexa.

  • Use Alexa’s reminder feature to be notified of upcoming purchases in good time. This prevents you from forgetting important errands.

  • Experiment with different voice commands to find out which ones best suit your shopping habits. For example, you can say, “Alexa, what’s on my shopping list?” to get an overview of your list.

  • A common cause of connection problems is an outdated version of the app or skill. Check for updates and install them if necessary.

  • Sometimes it can help to disable the skill in the Alexa app and then re-enable it. This forces a resynchronization between the services.

  • Check the internet connection of your Alexa device. A stable connection is essential for the services to work properly.

Important change as of July 2024

Amazon has discontinued the integration of third-party list apps for Alexa. This also affects the Bring! app. Developers can no longer access Alexa lists directly via skills or APIs.

  • Direct voice commands such as “Alexa, add milk to my shopping list” no longer work with Bring! These now always end up on the internal Alexa shopping list and no longer in Bring!.

  • You can continue to use Bring! with Alexa, but you must now always explicitly ask Alexa to open the Bring! skill first. Only then will products be added to the Bring! list.

  • Example of a working voice command: “Alexa, open Bring! and add bread to my shopping list.”
