How to Completely Close Android Apps

by Mike

To prevent your Android apps from continuing to run in the background, you need to close them properly from time to time. You can do this using a specific button on your device.

Closing Android Apps on the Home Screen

To prevent your smartphone from slowing down and your battery from draining quickly, you should completely close your most recently used apps regularly. If you simply exit the app, it will continue running in the background unless you’ve restricted background activities.

  1. Press and hold the Home button on your smartphone. This will display all apps running in the background. To close the apps, swipe them up or to the right.
  2. On newer Android devices, tap the three lines to the left of the Home icon. An overview of all recently used apps will open. Tap “Close All” to close them.

Alternative: Close apps in Android Settings

Alternatively, you can also close apps in Android Settings. This is especially helpful if a specific app has frozen and needs to be terminated.

    • To do this, first open the “Settings” menu.
    • Now scroll down to “Apps.”
    • Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop.” The app will now be completely closed.
