Rewriting NFC tags – here’s how

by Pramith

NFC tags allow you to carry out various tasks with just a single hand movement. In this practical tip, we explain how you can rewrite these little helpers.

Rewriting NFC tags

Most NFC tags are rewritable. If you’re not sure whether your sticker or chip can also be reconfigured, the Android app “NFC TagInfo” can help by reading out all the important information for you. To rewrite the tag, however, the “Trigger” app is ideal. Here’s how to rewrite it:

  1. Launch the app and tap the plus icon in the top right-hand corner to create a new task.
  2. Select “NFC” from the trigger list. Then tap “Next”.
  3. Now name your task and add a sub-task using the plus icon. For example, this allows you to connect your smartphone to Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth device when you tap an NFC tag.
  4. Tap “Next” once you have configured the task in more detail.
  5. You can also set up a two-step task. For example, you can activate the ringtone on the first tap and switch the mobile to silent mode on the second NFC contact.
  6. Finally, hold the back of your smartphone against the NFC tag when prompted on the screen. Wait a moment; your NFC tag will now be reprogrammed with the task.
