InDesign Insert image into frame: Instructions in 4 steps

In order to insert an image into a frame in InDesign, you only need four important steps:

  • Select the Frame tool from the menu bar on the right. You can also call it up with the shortcut “F”.
  • Drag the frame while holding down the left mouse button. Once you are satisfied with the size, release the mouse button. To correct the size, enter the dimensions in the upper menu bar or drag the rectangle at the corner points.
  • Use File ☻ Place to select the image you want to insert into the frame. Once the image is placed in InDesign, you will usually only see a section of it.
  • Under Object ☻ Fit, select an appropriate option, such as Fit to Frame. The image will then fill the entire frame. The shortcuts for the individual commands can be found in the menu field next to the options.
