Paying for Netflix via Google Play: What you need to know

by Pramith

If you want to use Netflix, the question arises as to how you can pay for it and whether it’s possible to do so via Google Play. This isn’t an option for everyone.

Paying for Netflix via Google Play: All the details

Paying for Netflix via Google Play is no longer common practice these days. However, there is still one way to pay this way.

  • If you were already a Netflix customer before May 2018 and selected Google Play as your payment method, you can still have the monthly fee debited via this option.
  • However, if you only became a member after that date, you can no longer use this option.
  • There are, however, alternatives to this payment method: Such as PayPal, direct debit, voucher codes, credit cards, prepaid cards or debit cards.
  • Some mobile network providers also offer the option of having the charge added directly to your mobile phone bill.

How to change your payment method

If you want to stop using Google Play as your payment method, simply open the Google Play Store – for example, on your smartphone.

  • There, if you click on your Google profile picture or initials, you’ll find an overview including your payments and subscriptions.
  • Select this and then choose ‘Subscriptions’. You’ll usually find an overview there, including your Netflix subscription, provided it’s paid for via Google Play.
  • Click on it and select the “Cancel subscription” button.
  • You’ll usually receive a confirmation email stating when the subscription will be cancelled.
