Every SIM card has a PUK number in addition to the PIN. It is best to keep this 8-digit number combination handy and safe
How to define the PUK number
You often need a password or PIN to secure technical devices. You can unlock your smartphone and SIM card with a four-digit PIN. If you forget this, another number – the PUK – plays an important role.
- “PUK” stands for “Personal Unblocking Key” – i.e. a personal unlocking key for your cell phone.
- The PUK is an 8-digit number that acts as a second password. This is why it is often called a “SuperPin”
- In addition to the PIN and for the first login, each SIM card also has a PUK number which, unlike the PIN, you cannot change yourself.
You need the PUK
for this It remains to be clarified in which situations exactly you need the 8-digit number sequence. As a rule, the PUK is not required. However, you may quickly find yourself in a situation where you should have the PUK to hand.
- If you enter the PIN incorrectly three times in a row when logging on to your smartphone or unlocking the SIM card, you will be prompted to enter the PUK for security reasons.
- Please note that you have a maximum of ten attempts to enter the PUK number. Otherwise, your SIM card will be completely blocked
- After successfully entering the PUK, you must set a new PIN and confirm it by entering it again.
How to find your PUK
It is important for you to know where you can find the PUK and where you have filed the corresponding letter.
- You will receive the PUK in a letter together with your SIM card. You should keep this in a safe place
- If you have lost your PUK or do not have it to hand while on vacation, for example, you can contact your mobile phone provider’s customer service. However, this is usually associated with costs in the low to mid double-digit range.
- In addition to your mobile phone number and SIM card number, customer service will also need your personal customer password to determine your PUK.
