Providers of charging cards with no monthly fee
Charging an electric car is especially easy with a charging card. Many providers let you conveniently charge your car at a charging station without paying a monthly fee.
- Shell Recharge: Since 2017, the oil company Shell has been offering a comprehensive charging solution called Shell Recharge. With 700,000 charging points across Europe, the stations can be found at many everyday locations such as supermarkets, movie theaters, and gyms.
- EnBW mobility+: EnBW offers three charging plans. However, the monthly base fee is waived only for Plan S. This plan allows you to charge your electric car at 600,000 charging stations in 17 countries.
- Maingau Autostrom: The Hessian energy provider Maingau Energie offers a charging card that lets you charge your electric car at around 127,000 charging points in Germany and 600,000 across Europe.
- EWE Go: The energy provider EWE offers EWE Go, a charging card with no base fee. You pay only for the electricity you use, with fixed prices for AC and DC charging.
- ADAC e-Charge: If you’re an ADAC member, register via the app for a charging card with no monthly fee.
How the EV Charging Card Works
- The charging card is typically linked to a customer account, which is used for billing. Alternatively, there are apps that provide a digital version of the card.
- To use a charging card, sign up with the provider of your choice and then locate a charging station near you.
Hold the card up to the station’s reader to start charging. The cost of the electricity charged is billed to the payment method on file, often via direct debit or credit card.
