CIV 7: This is what the gameplay trailer shows
The first gameplay videos and information about CIV 7 have been available since August 2024.
- Revolutionary changes: Civilization 7 introduces radical changes, including changing races with each age, removing master builders and religious victories, and a new system for districts. Nevertheless, the new mechanics were surprisingly well received when we played the game.
- Strategic depth and less micromanagement: The game strives to divide the gameplay into chapters and reduce micromanagement to allow for more interesting strategic decisions. This is supported by a new system that simplifies city growth and resource management
- Visual and atmospheric improvements: Civ 7 features improved graphics, inspired by paintings, and introduces visual elements that enhance the atmosphere on the world map. Cities and their defenses are more visible, making the game experience more immersive.
- Introduction of new mechanics: Civ 7 integrates an epoch system where players can change their civilizations to use more relevant units and buildings. While this may weaken the historical narrative, it offers more strategic options. In addition, walls now go around each district, which should make the conquest of cities more exciting.
- New focus on diplomacy and satisfaction: The diplomacy system has been revised and now offers a wide range of interaction possibilities between players. Satisfaction is simplified, but luxury resources take on new meaning as they provide specific bonuses for cities and races

Civilization 7: Release planned for 2025
2016 saw the release of Civilization 6, the latest installment in the series known for “one more round”. Developer Firaxis Games has now announced the official release date at Gamescom 2024:
- Civilization 7 will be released on 11 February 2025
- To sweeten the wait until then, we recommend the Civilization board game.
Civilization 7: Platforms for release
Civilization 7 will be released on a variety of platforms at the same time as its predecessor:
- In addition to Windows, you can play the seventh part of the series on macOS and Linux PCs. Windows devices require a 64-bit processor and operating system. Linux requires SteamOS
- The 4X strategy game will be released on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S are also supported
- You can also look forward to a Nintendo Switch version of the game. However, due to the limited hardware, significant graphics adjustments are likely to be required
- It is to be expected that the controls on the consoles will be adapted accordingly.
- Developer Firaxis Games also emphasized that the PC version has the highest priority, as Civilization 7 is best played with a mouse and keyboard. So no compromises will be made in terms of graphics just because the game will also be released on older consoles
