To land faster in Fortnite, you should jump directly above your target and open your parachute late to make the most of your maximum descent speed
Landing faster in Fortnite
In the Battle Royale hit Fortnite, a quick start can mean the difference between victory and defeat. The sooner you land, the quicker you can secure weapons and resources and consolidate your position. Choosing your drop route is the first crucial step towards getting on the ground as quickly as possible.
- Set your target: As soon as the Battle Bus signal sounds, you should open your map and select the best landing spot. Choose a location close to the flight path so you don’t spend too much time in the air. However, you should also avoid areas that lie directly on the flight path, as these are often heavily contested.
- Vertical jump line: Jump as soon as your target location is as directly below the bus as possible. This minimises the horizontal flight distance and speeds up your descent.
- Optimal jump height: Take note of the elevation of your destination. For locations in Fortnite situated in higher-altitude regions, such as mountains or hills, you should jump a little earlier to compensate for the distance.
Efficient landing techniques in Fortnite
As well as choosing your route, the right technique is crucial for landing faster in Fortnite.
- Head first: Keep your character facing downwards towards the ground as much as possible whilst falling. This reduces air resistance and increases your speed.
- Deploy the glider late: The glider opens automatically at a predetermined altitude. Use gravity to stay in free fall for as long as possible. Fly directly over your target so that you can deploy the glider as close as possible to your landing spot.
- Fly at an angle towards your target: Once the glider is open, you can gain speed by flying at a slight angle. This trick takes a bit of practice, but can save you valuable seconds.
- Optimise your landing spot: Landing with precision saves time. Try to land directly on a building roof or near a chest to gain immediate access to loot.
Jumping over low-lying areas
This tip may seem a bit odd at first, but it works wonders.
- If there’s a mountain or a tall tree below you, your glider will open very early – without you being able to close it again. This significantly increases the time it takes you to reach the ground.
- The solution: Just before your parachute opens, you should be hovering over a very low-lying area. This includes, for example, bodies of water or valleys.
- The river flowing from ‘Loot Lake’ southwards across the island towards the town of ‘Lucky Landing’ is particularly well-suited for this. If the parachute opens over the riverbed, you have a good chance of being the first to reach “Tilted Towers”.
