Hogwarts Legacy: Choosing a House – Tips and how the choice affects your game.

by Mike

In Hogwarts Legacy, you can choose the house you most want to go to. But what are the differences between Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin and how do you affect gameplay?

Hogwarts Legacy: How to choose your house

At the beginning of every role-playing game is character creation. In the Harry Potter universe, of course, you can determine not only hair colour, skin colour and gender, but also the house of your character.

  • As soon as you arrive at Hogwarts, you will be asked to choose your house in Hogwarts Legacy: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin.
  • Gryffindor stands for courage and chivalry. The colours are red and gold, the heraldic animal the lion. Famous members are for example Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and Albus Dumbledore.
  • Ravenclaw is for clever and creative minds. On the crest is the raven and the colours of Hogwarts House are blue and bronze. For example, Luna Lovegood and the wandmaker Ollivander were in Ravenclaw.
  • Hufflepuff stands for loyalty and helpfulness. Yellow and black are the colours, the badger the heraldic animal. Among the most famous Hufflepuffs are Newt Scamander, the herbology teacher Professor Sprout and the Auror Nymphadora Tonks.
  • Slytherin represents ambition and cunning. The snake can be seen on the coat of arms, the colours are green and silver. Draco Malfoy, Professor Snape and Lord Voldemort are representatives of the house.
  • You cannot change the house during the course of the game – only with a new score can you choose a different one of the four school houses.
  • Not quite sure where to put your character? Ask the Talking Hat, and he’ll make a recommendation.

What effect does the choice of house have on the game?

If you have to choose a faction as soon as you start the game, FOMO comes up. But don’t worry – the house creates mainly cosmetic differences, but does not affect the story.

  • Your Hogwarts house determines which common room you come to. The detailed common rooms are designed according to the house and you cannot visit the common rooms of the other houses.
  • Your school uniform also reflects your affiliation to your house.
  • Some NPCs have a different attitude towards you and interact with you differently. But don’t worry – you won’t ruin relationships purely because of your house.
  • The story is generally the same, although the path to each quest may be different. But you don’t get different endings or important story decisions depending on the house.
