Horizon Forbidden West: Find and climb longnecks – all info

by Pramith

In Horizon Forbidden West there are several longnecks waiting for you. The giant machines are tied to difficult climbing sections

Horizon Forbidden West: Locations of the longnecks

You can encounter a total of six longnecks in Horizon Forbidden West. They are spread across the entire game world.

  • You will encounter a longneck in the Vermilion Sands at the start of the game. Look out for a damaged satellite dish to discover the machine. The satellite dish is also important if you want to climb the longneck.
  • In the north-eastern area of the Stillsande, another long-neck is making its rounds around an Oseram camp. It is easy to spot in the landscape, as it is a desert. In the surrounding area, however, you will find ballistae that you should remember
  • Continue on to Salzbiss. There you will find the IOTA Hatchery in the very north of the map, right next to the Longneck, which you still need to repair. You must explore the hatchery to bridge the longneck
  • The seat of the guardians does not make it easy for you to discover the local longneck due to the dense forests. It is located to the north of the bay incision near the coast and is surrounded by numerous trees equipped with helpful bridges and tree houses.
  • In the south of Landfall, another longneck awaits you, most of which has sunk into the sea. You must first repair it before it can move again
  • In the middle of the Shining Wasteland you will also find a longneck that you cannot miss. You bridge this over the course of the story and cannot climb it any earlier.

Horizon Forbidden West: Climbing Longnecks

To climb longnecks in Horizon Forbidden West, you have to think a little and make use of your surroundings.

  • Moving longnecks always follow a path, which usually runs in an oval or circle. In doing so, they pass a variety of natural and man-made objects
  • Scout the surroundings of the long-necked path thoroughly to get an overview of them. This will allow you to discover tall trees or ruins, for example, from which you can jump onto the longneck.
  • In comparison to its predecessor, scouting is even more important in Horizon Forbidden West. You often need missing parts to reactivate the long necks. These have been stolen from other machines, which you must locate beforehand
  • Once you have activated a longneck, you have to find a way up, just like with the others. Make use of your equipment such as the grappling hook
  • Once you have found a hold on the body of the longnecks, all you have to do is climb up to the head. The machines are quiet in comparison and do not throw you off deliberately. Once at the top, use your spear to bridge over them
