Who or what is MissingNo from Pokemon?

MissingNo is a well-known glitch in the first generations of Pokémon games, most notably Pokémon Red and Pokemon Blue for the Game Boy. The name “MissingNo” stands for “Missing Number”. You can encounter MissingNo in battle, as this glitch is displayed in-game as a missing Pokémon number in the Pokédex.

• MissingNo will appear when certain conditions are met, such as browsing certain locations or performing certain in-game actions. When the glitch is activated, a special,graphically flawed Pokémon sprite is displayed, usually called a glitch Pokémon.

• MissingNo is often abused as a “cheat” because it multiplies the sixth digit item when it appears. This way you can create an infinite number of special candies or master balls.

• Catching MissingNo can destroy the hall of fame or break the game graphics. Nintendo recommends releasing MissingNo or restarting the game to fix these bugs.
