Play Fortnite on Mac: Here’s how

by Corinna

Fortnite on the Mac is available in two different versions, each of which has its limitations

Fortnite: Mac version at a glance

If you want to play Fortnite on a Mac, you can simply download the Battle Royale.

  • This is possible via the Epic Games Launcher. Install the software, create an account or log in to gain access to the Epic Games Store
  • You will then find Fortnite in the store. Download the game and you can start playing.
  • Attention: Due to restrictions imposed by Apple, there have been no more updates for the Mac version since version 13.40 (August 2020).
  • For this reason, current content and the cross-play function are missing. You can only play with Mac players and bots. The Save the World mode, V-Bucks and the in-game store are also missing
  • Note: You can also install Fortnite via Boot Camp and similar programs that allow you to set up a Windows partition on the Mac. This Fortnite version is just as up-to-date as the Windows version.

Fortnite on the Mac: Using cloud gaming services

If you want to play the latest version of Fortnite instead, you can use cloud gaming services.

  • Services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming or GeForce NOW enable gaming via a cloud. The platform does not play a role here
  • This makes it possible to play Fortnite on your Mac without any compromises. You usually have to take out a subscription for the services and link your Epic Games account.
  • The game is not free in this way. However, the current versions including crossplay and the in-game store are available.
  • Important: To play the cloud version of Fortnite without any problems, you need a good internet connection.
