The power consumption of a 3D printer depends, amongst other things, on the display, the lighting, the motherboard, the stepper motors, the print head and the print bed. Another factor is the duration of use.
This is how much power a 3D printer uses
You can use 3D printers to print various objects. These include, for example, mobile phone cases, model cars or even watering cans. These are programmed using software before printing.
- The power consumption of a standard 3D printer ranges from 80 to 150 watts. This equates to a consumption of 0.08 kW to 0.15 kW per hour.
- At a current electricity price of 48 cents per kWh, this results in a cost of 4 to approximately 7 cents for a printing time of 1 hour.
- Actual consumption figures may vary. The duration of use is a particularly important factor here. Depending on the component you are creating, the 3D printing process may take a shorter or longer time. Consequently, electricity consumption is higher for larger or more complex components.
- The frequency of use also influences actual electricity consumption.
