CV: This belongs on the cover page

In addition to the cover letter, CV and references, the application also includes a smart cover page. You can use it to add a little extra value to your application documents and clearly set yourself apart from the competition. Because you know: First impressions count…

Pimp up your application with a cover page

A cover sheet is not compulsory for your application documents, but it does make a difference. You can find many job offers on the Internet where you can score well with a cover sheet.

  • The cover sheet should be placed after the covering letter, followed by your curriculum vitae and various references and certificates.
    • A large, professional photo that you place effectively on the cover page contributes to a good cover page. Avoid standard application photos, such as those usually found in the top corner of the CV.
    • Use the cover page to once again clearly state your address, telephone number and email address.
    • You can also briefly summarise the most interesting stages of your career for the position you are applying for on the cover page. But please only include the most striking key points, such as: Computer science degree completed in 2010, computer scientist at PC-Control since 2011.
    • You can safely forget about the heading “Application” on the cover page, as it should be clear to the recruiter what the documents are about even without your “discreet” reference. Instead, make a brief note of the position you are interested in. For example: Job advertisement Software Developer.
    • You will find templates for your cover page in all common Office packages. If you use Microsoft Word, call up the “Insert” tab. In the “Pages” section of the ribbon, you will see the option “Cover Page”. Click on it and you will be offered numerous cover page variants. They range from modern to traditional.
