iCloud: Recover deleted videos from iPhone and iPad
If you have activated iCloud backup, you can restore the videos by uploading the backup. If you also make your backup in iTunes, you can jump directly to the next paragraph.
- Open the settings on your iPhone or iPad and select the category “iCloud” a little further down.
- Scroll down and select “Manage storage” under “Storage & Backup”.
- Tap the top of your iPhone and see if the “Recordings” option is enabled at the bottom.
- This is the only way to restore the video from an iCloud backup. You can read how this works in the next paragraph.
iPhone/iPad: Restore deleted videos via a backup
To restore videos, you need to completely restore your iOS device to a backup. To avoid creating a new backup, you must enable the function for now.
- Start iTunes, but do not connect your iOS device yet. Press the Ctrl and “,” (comma) keys at the same time so that the settings open up.
- Switch to the “Devices” tab at the top and activate the option “Prevent automatic synchronisation of iPods, iPhones and iPads”.
- Close the window with “OK” and connect your iOS device to your computer via USB cable.
- Select the device in the top right corner and click on the “Restore Backup” button in the bottom right corner.
- If you did not create a backup on the computer, but you have an iCloud backup, you can reset your iOS device to factory settings. When you set it up again, you can apply the iCloud backup.
Videos are recoverable for 30 days
If you’ve accidentally deleted a video, you can easily recover it from the Photos app on your device.
- Your iPhone / iPad will sort of save all deleted photos and videos in a separate folder for up to 30 days after deletion. After that, they are permanently deleted.
- To restore these files, scroll all the way down in the Photos app under “Albums”, there you will find the “Recently Deleted” folder.
- This should contain all the media you have deleted in the last 30 days. Tap on the video and then tap on the “Restore” button at the bottom right. Now the video should show up again normally in the Photos app.
