‘Throwback’ is English for ‘look back’. The term has been a well-established trend on social media for around 10 years.
- The social media term is often used as a hashtag. It is particularly common in its abbreviated form: #tb or #tbt.
- #tbt is short for ‘Throwback Thursday’. This hashtag is arguably the most popular use of the ‘throwback’ trend. As the name suggests, older content is posted on Thursdays.
- Active social media users regularly upload throwbacks. These throwbacks do not refer to last week or the week before; instead, older posts are the focus.
- Most often, these are throwbacks to holidays, moments with friends or other photos that people like to look back on. Anything you’ve captured in the past that still brings a smile to your face can be posted as part of this trend.
