When you invite friends round for a birthday party, table decorations are a great way to welcome your guests and create a lovely atmosphere. Our tips will show you how to amaze your guests.
Ideas for birthday table decorations
If you’re celebrating a birthday, there are plenty of brilliant ways to decorate the table for your guests. Depending on the style of the party and the host’s preferences, there’s something to suit everyone.
- Lights of all kinds look great on the table. If you like real candles, you could go for a vintage look or choose heart-shaped tea lights for a playful touch. LED tea lights are a safe alternative.
- Flowers are also always a lovely idea, whether they’re artificial or real flowers from the shop. Let your creativity run wild with the colours and shapes of the flowers!
- A nice idea is to have place cards for your guests. Either write on some pretty pre-printed cards or design them entirely to your own taste. This will make your guests feel welcome.
- Confetti for your birthday table is available in countless varieties. If you’re decorating to mark a special milestone, you can scatter it across the table. But you’re sure to find plain confetti in your chosen colour too.
- With napkins, you can decorate your table however you like: either with the milestone year printed on them, a nice saying, or in colours that match the style of the celebration.
- A blackboard makes a real eye-catcher in your decorations. Write on the board, for example, the names of all the guests, the party theme or the menu for the day.
More birthday decoration ideas: glitter balloons
- Take the balloon out of the packet. Hold the opening open slightly with two fingers.
- Carefully pour a handful of confetti into the balloon.
Tip: A funnel will help you with this.
- You can now inflate the balloon with air or helium.
- Once inflated, the balloons can be stuck to the wall, ceiling or – as this is a table decoration – to the chairs using sticky tape.
- If the balloons have been filled with helium, it looks particularly striking if you attach them right in the middle of the birthday table or on the floor around the table.
- These balloons create a particularly beautiful and sparkling atmosphere.
Photo wall poster
A poster featuring lots of photos of the birthday child is very easy to make. The materials you’ll need are: around 100–150 small photos of the birthday child in various sizes (up to a maximum of 7×9 cm), 1 large sheet of poster paper (roughly A2 size), glue sticks, a pencil and pens in various colours.
- Get all your materials ready.
- Lay the poster on the table and use a pencil to lightly draw the birthday child’s age in large numbers.
- Now arrange all the photos close together along the lines you have drawn.
Tip: The photos can also overlap. This makes it look even nicer.
- Once everything fits and looks good, you can stick the photos down firmly.
- Finally, you can write the birthday child’s name above the number using photos in different colours.
- Hang the poster on the wall behind the birthday table so that all the guests can see it. You can also scatter individual photos around the table.
- If possible, attach two pieces of string to the top corners of the poster and hang it from the ceiling so that it hangs over the table. It helps if both sides of the poster are covered with adhesive.
Easy garland
- First, place the first sheet of coloured paper on the table. Place the glass, with the opening facing downwards, on the sheet and draw a circle around it with a pencil. Repeat this several times on the other sheets (approx. 15 paper circles).
- Now cut out these circles.
- Now place the circles exactly on top of one another. At the very top, about 5mm from the edge, make a hole using a hole punch.
- Finally, thread the circles onto the string so that they hang from it.
Tip: You’re welcome to stick photos, stickers, etc. onto the garlands.
- Hang the garland over the birthday table. If you like, you can also hang streamers over the garland.
- Alternatively, a garland also looks lovely if you let it meander across the table and hang down at the sides.
