Setting a combination lock – it’s that easy

by Tobias

Setting a combination lock is relatively simple, but it varies slightly depending on the manufacturer. In this article we will show you the best way to do it.

How to set a combination lock correctly

In most cases, you should be able to adjust a combination lock by pressing the shackle down in a position other than the locking position. Only then can you give the lock a new number.

  • Turn the shackle at least 180 degrees and push it down. Some manufacturers also have a mark on the lock to show you the correct position.
  • Once the shackle is pressed, hold it until you have set the new number on the number wheel. When you release the shackle again, the new number will be stored in the lock.
Now you can use the lock with the new number. Now close the lock and test whether the number you have chosen works. With other locks it is also possible that the setting works via the wheel.

Another method to set a combination lock

Not every combination lock comes with a shackle. For example, with bicycle locks you often find the variant where the number is set directly via the wheel. Before delivery, this is first set to three times zero.

    • To change the number, first set the current numerical code. After opening, you should now see a ring on the lock, which you can change with the
    • finger to the opposite position.
    • Now it is possible for you to choose a new code on the combination lock that is best easy to remember and not too light. When you are satisfied with the settings, turn the ring back to its original position. The code is now stored.
    • To ensure that the lock remains secure, you should change the code regularly. You can then do this in the same way as the first time. Only this time, set the current code before changing it.
