Firefox no longer opens pages – What you can do

by Pramith

If Firefox cannot be opened, this quickly leads to despair. In most cases, Firefox is then already running in the background, but is so easily not visible. In this article, we show you how you can fix this and other errors and quickly start surfing with Firefox again.

  • If Firefox does not open after one or two minutes, the first thing you should do is call up the Task Manager
To do this, press the key combination [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del] and then click on the “Task Manager” entry.

    • Then look for the entry “Firefox” in the overview.
    • Click on it with the right mouse button and select “End Task”.
    • Finally click on “File” ☻ “New Task” and enter “firefox.exe” (without quotes).

Firewall & Virus protection: Is Firefox blocked?

      • In some cases, firewalls or antivirus programs block Firefox – for example, if a malicious tool has nested in the browser and would run when Firefox is launched.
      • This is why, as a last resort, you should briefly switch off the firewall and deactivate the virus protection. We show how this works with AVG, for example, in another article.

      Last resort. Reinstall Firefox

If none of this helps, you should reinstall Firefox: To do this, uninstall Firefox completely and then reinstall it
