Halloween: These children’s films fit the “Spooky Season”.

To get in the mood for Halloween, there are plenty of spooky children’s films to watch alongside pumpkin carving or lantern making. You can watch these with your little vampires and get a little spooky together.

Halloween children’s films with spooky factor

For Halloween, there are plenty of scary movies and spooky series that are perfect for a cosy movie night with the kids.

  • Hui Buh – Das Schlossgespenst (2006): This children’s film, dubbed by Michael Herbig and Christoph Maria Herbst, revolves around Knight Balduin, who is transformed by a curse into the officially licensed castle ghost Hui Buh. However, when he loses his ghost licence, he has to prove himself again in order to get it back. This film has already been released from FSK 0.
  • The Little Witch (2018): Based on the children’s book by Ottrfried Preußer, this live-action adaptation features the story of the little witch and her raven Abraxas. The little witch must distinguish herself through special deeds in order to fulfil her dream of being allowed to fly to Blocksberg with the big witches. You don’t have to worry about this film either, the age limit is FSK 0.
  • Hotel Transylvania (2012): The first part of the film series, which is released from 6 years, is about Count Dracula, who tries to shield his daughter Mavis from the humans. To do so, he builds a castle in Transylvania where only monsters are allowed to spend their holidays. However, when Mavis falls in love with a human, there is a lot of chaos in the Dracula family.
  • The Monster AG (2001): This film gives an insight into the world of Monstropolis. Here, the monsters Mike and Sulley are responsible for scaring human children in order to generate energy for Monstropolis. However, many complications arise when one of the monsters befriends a little human girl. As the film is not too scary, it is particularly suitable for children aged 6 and over.
  • Happy Family (2017): This animated film, recommended for ages 6 and up, revolves around the Wünschmann family. They fall victim to the curse of a witch. They are all turned into monsters. In order to break this curse, they have to reunite as a family and become happy again.
  • The Vampire Sisters (2012): The two half-vampire sisters Silvania and Dakaria must first get used to their new home in Germany after moving there. While one of the sisters enjoys her existence as a human, the other wishes to be a real vampire. When they express their wishes, this causes a lot of chaos. The film is suitable for even the smallest monsters and has no age limit.
  • Casper (1995): When the ghost Casper, who has been wreaking havoc in a mansion for decades, wants to make friends with the human child Kat, the ghost’s uncles don’t like it at all. They try to drive the human family out of the villa by any means necessary. This family-friendly film is recommended for ages 6 and up.

Halloween series for kids

There is also no shortage of suitable series based around Halloween.

  • Mona the Vampire (1999-2003): This series shows the life of ten-year-old Mona and her friends, who make up supernatural stories. These help them solve mysterious events in the real world. The age rating is 6 years.
  • Henry Cuddle Monster(2013): Together with his family and friends, Henry Knuddelmonster learns many new, exciting things. Among other things, the series also shows how to deal well with problems, relationships and feelings. The topics addressed have no age limit and are therefore suitable even for toddlers
  • The Super Monsters (2017): Welcome to the kindergarten of the descendants of famous monsters! Here the children of Count Dracula, Frankenstein and Co. learn how best to use their special abilities. Even their kindergarten children can already learn from this series, it is recommended for ages 0 and up.
