The series “The Billionaire’s Bunker” is at the top of the Netflix charts. But the sci-fi dystopia leaves many questions unanswered, so there are already calls for a second season.
Netflix hit: What The Billionaire Bunker is about
The creator of the series “Money Heist,” showrunner Álex Pina, has done it again: he is the mastermind behind the new Netflix series “The Billionaire’s Bunker.” In eight episodes, Pina tells a dystopian story.
- What is “The Billionaire’s Bunker” about? World War III is imminent as global conflict rages on Earth. The richest and most powerful people in the world are to be protected in a sealed-off luxury bunker.
- During a test visit to the bunker, the chosen few watch on screens as the world above is destroyed. They believe themselves to be the only survivors. But as the end of the first episode shows, nothing is as it seems.
- What initially appears to be a safe haven quickly becomes a gilded cage. The elite reach their psychological limits in the high-tech bunker, leading to intrigue, power struggles, and betrayal.
Cast of “The Billionaire Bunker”
In the series “The Billionaire Bunker,” fans of international productions will encounter one or two familiar faces.
- Natalia Verbeke plays Frida. She has already appeared in the French movie “Nur für Personal!” (For Staff Only!).
- Joaquin Furriel plays Guillermo. He is known from “Rest in Peace,” “El Hijo – The Son,” and “The Lighthouse of the Orcas.”
- Miren Ibarguren plays Minerva. The Basque actress has also appeared in “Just One Night,” “You Shall Not Lie,” and “Undercover Wedding.”
- Pau Simon, who plays Max, is known for “13 Exorcisms.”

Is there a second season of “The Billionaire Bunker”?
Season one leaves fans of “The Billionaire’s Bunker” with many questions, as it ends with a cliffhanger. This suggests that there could be a sequel.
- Netflix has not yet officially confirmed that a second season of “The Billionaire’s Bunker” is planned. However, showrunner Pina told the Spanish website Espinof: “What happens immediately after that has already been decided, as have ideas on how to make it even meaner and harder.”
- Whether Netflix puts Pina’s ideas into practice depends entirely on the success of the first season. “The Billionaire’s Bunker” made it to the top of the Netflix charts, which should increase the chances of new episodes.
- However, viewer reviews on the internet are mixed. The Netflix thriller only scores 5.3 out of ten stars in the film database. On the review platform Rotten Tomatoes, only 60 percent of viewers left a positive review.
- So it remains to be seen whether the creator of “Money Heist” will be allowed to continue the dystopia.
